A sauna experience where you help create the story.
At Fireside Fiction, you’ll go through a normal sauna session—but with a twist.
Between sauna rounds, you’ll step out, cool off, and chat with David, a live author. He’ll ask simple questions and gather ideas, thoughts, or funny moments from the group.
While you’re back in the sauna, David writes the next part of the story based on what he just heard.
Each round builds on the last, so the story keeps growing as the session goes on.
At the end, everyone comes together to hear the full story—and you’ll get a copy to take home.
How it works:
Sauna → cool off → talk with the author
Author writes while you’re back in the sauna
Repeat for a few rounds
End the afternoon with a live reading of the story
No writing experience needed—just show up, relax, and be part of it.
David Haznaw - Author
About the Author
David Haznaw is funny. Just ask him. And if he’s awake, he’s probably talking. Or writing. Oh, and he’s hungry. He’s always hungry. And curious … super-curious. About everything.
David has spent his career writing, learning and thinking. Starting as a reporter for his hometown newspaper, The Watertown (WI) Daily Times, David has plied his craft across a number of disciplines: from daily news to public relations, advertising, and corporate and commercial video productions for companies that span from the closely held family retail store down the street to the Fortune 500.
David Haznaw is also an author, amateur musician, sports lover, spouse and parent. He has written two creative nonfiction books about his own life (A Year In Words and I Told You I Was Dehydrated) and has co-written two others (Music Has Legs and Do Not Discard). And he’s always working on what’s next, whether that’s his next book (titled Traffic Cones Are People Too) or working with other writers and aspiring authors to craft their stories.
David likes to write stream-of-consciousness essays because it allows the reader to imagine what’s going on in his mind at a specific moment in time … and it’s a busy place.
A native Midwesterner, David has lived his entire life along the Interstate 94 corridor of The Dairy State. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned his degree in journalism. And he and his wife, Joanie, have made Menomonee Falls their home for 30+ years. They have two adult children, Kate and Will.
David’s original hometown, along with his adopted hometown (the Falls), provide the backdrop for many of his personal essays, and he tries to find the funny, emotional and identifiable aspects of life in some of the simplest and most obscure places.
